Rabbi Moshe’s Silver Soiree

SILVER SOIREE RECAP

On Saturday, September 7th, 2024, CJC held its “Silver Soiree” fundraiser to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Rabbi Moshe’s ordination and his being awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity. There were about 90 members and friends of CJC in attendance. Philip Chapnick served as the emcee, inviting up city officials, community partners, and faith leaders who shared their appreciation for Reb Moshe and for the Coastside Jewish Community.

Among those present was HMB City Councilmember Debbie Ruddock, who spoke about CJC’s important role in the community as well as her interest in converting to Judaism under Reb Moshe’s guidance and becoming more active in CJC.
In addition to several local faith leaders who spoke, Rabbi Maggid Jhos Singer gave a beautiful tribute to CJC and to Reb Moshe’s leadership, and offered words of blessing.
There was lots of laughter and kvelling, with members of Reb Moshe & Jill’s families present.
There were several silent auction items that went to the highest bidders and opportunities for attendees to raise their paddles in support of our four different chavurot. The generosity of our sponsors, attendees, and volunteers helped us exceed our fundraising goal of $25K!
A spectacular array of food was available, in addition to an open bar and an ice-cream bar….
…and first-rate music by The ShufTones created a festive vibe throughout the evening.
Reb Moshe shared his vision of where he sees CJC in five years: “My hope is that all of our members will be proud members…leaders in civic affairs and social justice initiatives. I want us to be able to respond quickly and effectively to antisemitic incidents and hate crimes…. To use the words of the prophet Isaiah, I want us to be a light unto the nations.”
Toward the end, local faith leaders joined together to pray for the well-being of CJC. “May its members be inspired to lead, serve, support and appreciate their community so that there will always be a vital and sustainable Jewish presence here on the Coastside….”
A big “THANK YOU” to our sponsors, attendees, staff and volunteers. It was a joyful event, a milestone in CJC’s evolution, and a good omen for the coming year – and years to come!
