Our community Sukkot celebration was held on Sunday, October 1, from 4-7pm.
Sukkot provides a great opportunity for all members of our community – old, young, and everyone in between – to gather, participate in one of the oldest rituals in Judaism, eat, play & have fun.
- Starting at 4, we’ll decorate the sukkah. Bring leafy branches, produce you can hang, and pictures of your ancestors.
- At about 5pm, Rabbi Moshe and Lissin will lead us through the prayers, songs, stories & rituals of Sukkot.
- When done, everyone we’ll share a potluck dinner. Please bring your own plates and eating utensils, as well as your vegetarian contribution to our potluck.
- Wander into the Sukkah & shake the lulav!
- Visit with friends, get to know future CJC friends.
Here are some other Sukkot related activities to be aware of:
- Friday, September 29, 7pm – Kabbalat Shabbat/ Erev Sukkot service in HMB with special guest Liana Thomason of Shalom Bayit. During the harvest holiday of Sukkot, we build temporary structures that remind us what it is like to have no permanent safe place to call home. On this holiday we keep in mind people who today don’t have a protective roof over their head. Liana Thomason of Shalom Bayit will weave together the Jewish themes of Sukkot and Domestic Violence Awareness Month (October), as communities and congregations throughout the Bay Area tie purple ribbons to their sukkot in honor of battered women and their children.

Wednesday, October 4, 3:30 – Northern Peninsula Sukkot celebration at Filoli. Join us for art and storytime in the Sukkah in the Filoli Orchard. Come at 3:30 with a snack and picnic blanket if you wish and check out the Orchard. From 4:00 – 5:00pm we’ll shake the lulav and etrog, sing, dance, and learn about the holiday while making new friends. Rabbi Moshe Heyn will lead a walking meditation that will open our eyes and hearts to the wonders that are there to behold. Thank you Filoli for generously opening the property to us free of charge for this celebration!
